Why Is It Bad To Put Labels On People?

Why Is It Bad To Put Labels On People?

Human beings love to constantly label everything and everyone we see throughout the day. We use labels to describe, identify things, and group similar items.

We label people, objects, relationships, and societal groups. For example, the minute we see someone we judge, label them and wonder about their gender background and social status.

So, the labels we often give people are not good for them. Let’s discuss why

It is bad to put labels on people because they can be harmful, limiting, and can prevent them from living their best life of full potential.

Labels can affect our self-image, esteem, confidence, and others’ image of who we are. They help negative stereotypes persist and spread.

You may be wondering, what are some other negative effects of labelling people? Let discuss that next.

Negative Effects Of Labelling People

We are here temporarily to live our best lives, but the labels that we give ourselves, to others, and that others give us don’t let us do that.

Our family, friends, school, workplace, and society all play a part in labelling us.

Labelling begins in our childhood and is a part of our survival instincts. However, it can have harmful side effects.

Society also labels and categorizes people into gender, different races, social classes, and sexual orientations. Our perspective of the world and ourselves is affected by these labels.

Labels do harm us. For example, the gender labels and language associated with it create societal expectations that predetermine what our life is supposed to look like.

We should be able to decide and create a life that would be best for each one of us individually based on our soul’s purpose.

For example, a little girl is limited in some ways because of her gender. She might not be encouraged to follow her interest in male-dominated careers or sports.

Labelling can also be dangerous and lead to hatred and prejudice.

How Labels Affect You And People

They Negate You

The labels that you are given negate your power and who you are which is a powerful soul that is having a temporary human experience.

You are not limited in any way. Your life has infinite possibilities.

Do not let anyone define who you are. Your creator has given you free will to live your best life and is not defining and/or limiting you in any way.

You have been given the perfect body and wisdom to fulfill your purpose while here on this earth.

We are all equal at the soul level. We are like our creator whom we came from. We have access to his strength, intelligence, and power.

Your true nature is like your creator. It is peace, love, joy, abundance, compassion, and kindness.

You are a soul(light) which is contained within this body at the moment. Your essence goes beyond your body.

You are a multisensory cosmic being. You are not powerless.

Give You Limiting Beliefs

When you get labelled by someone repeatedly, you eventually start believing those labels and it becomes your reality.

You create your life from these beliefs. Labels hold you back and keep you small.

For example, labels that you were given as a child may affect your self-image and future potential.

Also, labels you were given while in an abusive relationship might lead you to believe that you are a failure, damaged, not enough, or worthy.

Start questioning labels that you are given and stop believing in anything that does not serve you and help you with the fulfillment of your purpose.

No one is an expert or authoritative when it comes to your life and can tell you how successful you will be.

It is up to you and your creator. Others’ opinion of you is none of your business.

Turn to your intuition and inner loving guidance and clarity from your creator. Meditation and sitting in silence are two out of many ways to do this.

Become Self-fulfilling Prophecy

When you start believing the labels others place on you it starts becoming a part of your identity and you start living the expectations set by others. It acts as handcuffs that limit your potential.

Your identity leads to the formation of beliefs that then guide your thoughts, feelings, and then you act and speak based on that feeling which creates your habits and destiny.

So, discard and do not believe the negative labels that you have been given. They do not serve you, help you, or fulfill your purpose and they become your fulfilling prophecy.

Limiting beliefs create doubts and fears and prevent you from living your best meaningful life of service and purpose by design in flow and trust with the universe.

Become Your Excuses

The negative labels become your crutches and excuses for you to play it small in life, not grow, and not believe in having the potential and capacity to serve others and fulfill your purpose.

Always remember that we are all here to learn, grow, and serve others by the unique gifts and natural talents that we have been blessed with by our creator. We did not come on this earth to play it small.

You are capable of doing anything your heart desires. Don’t use those negative labels as crutches and excuses.

You are in charge and you can tap into your creator’s intelligence and strength that is always available to you.

Removes Responsibility

Negative labels allow you to remove responsibility and initiative for you to create the exact life that you want which you are fully capable of creating.

You can design the life you want and you can create it.
Your life is created from your identity, beliefs and thoughts.

You are 100% responsible to create your life. The sooner you adopt the labels that serve you, not the ones that don’t serve you, or the beliefs that serve you, and not the ones that don’t serve you, the better it is that you’ll be able to create your life that you are here to live.

You have the powers that your creator has, you have the intelligence, you have the strength, and you can always tap into that.

It is available to every single one of us. We are all equal souls despite the size, colour of our body, role, and status. We have all come from the same creator.

Even someone who’s in a body that’s labelled as disabled here on this earth, that body is given to that soul for a purpose.

We may say it’s disabled and it’s not good. But, it is perfect for the reason as to why that soul is here on this earth. It is here to fulfill a purpose in that exact body.

It does not matter whether other people understand it or not, whether other people judge you, and it does not matter what they say to you.

You are in a perfect body for the function that you’re here to fulfill.

As long as you’re growing and you’re serving with whatever capacity that you have, you will be fine. Listen to your soul and get guidance from your creator.

Don’t let anybody negate you by labelling you. Don’t believe that any of those labels will stop you from living the life that you’re here to live.

Adds Pressure

Positive labels can also be problematic.

A person who is labelled as smart may suffer from extreme stress, anxiety, and put extreme pressure on themselves as they struggle to maintain their reputation and fulfill others’ expectations of them.

Why do we put labels on everything?

We put labels on everything for our security, comfort, and familiarity. We want to manage uncertainty and assert some control over it.

It helps us compartmentalize situations and behaviours. We are often telling ourselves I am not like them.

It is easy to define ourselves and others by narrow parameters and putting us into boxes of predetermined ideas and categories because of our jobs, looks, religion, colour, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

It is easier to think that we know ourselves and others than to know them, genuinely and intimately.

The more we learn to be comfortable with the unknown and change, the better our life will be and the less we will need to label everyone and ourselves.

Be open to going deeper into the core of our own or someone else’s and allow having our perspectives, beliefs, and expectations to be challenged.

In conclusion, the more we are aware and get to know who we are and how powerful we are the less we judge and label others and ourselves negatively.

We will also learn to give less power to labels and expectations others place on us.

Next, learn to install empowering beliefs that serve you and help you fulfill your purpose and live your best meaningful life.
