Why Am I So Unhappy With My Job?

Why Am I So Unhappy With My Job?

If you know me you know that I whole heartedly preach that it is never okay to stay in a job that you do not love. We are only on this earth for a short time and we spend a large part of our day at work.

Life is a precious gift to be lived with joy, and so we should not be spending most of our day being miserable and wishing for the week (5 days) to go by quickly, so we can enjoy the weekend (2 days).

You may be wondering why you feel unhappy with your job. Let’s discuss the reason next.

I believe that life happens for us, and so when you feel unhappy in a job, it is the universe (creator) nudging you and providing you with gentle guidance that you have outgrown the job that you are currently doing.

It is time to express gratitude for this job that served you in the past and let it go to someone else who would it benefit from it.

It is time to look at alternative ways to serve others that are aligned to your values, natural gifts, talents, passions, purpose and soul’s calling.

Next, let’s discuss some reasons why you are unhappy in your job and what to do about it.

Reasons Why You Are Stuck In An Unhappy Job
(And What To Do)

We live in a time where there’s so much possibility for everybody and nobody should be stuck in an unfulfilling job that they hate. Life is short and we are here to live a happy, joyful, loving, peaceful life.

If that is not what you are experiencing, then you can change it because you are a soul with a body that has infinite possibilities.

Let’s discuss some reasons that would cause you to be stuck in an unfulfilling or unhappy job

Lack Of Belief In Yourself

You feel hopeless and helpless about your life and job. You believe you do not have a choice and this is the only job you are capable of getting and doing.

Remember you’re a soul with a body that has infinite possibilities and you have access to both divine intelligence and strength.

Know without a doubt that you can do anything and have anything that you desire and commit to by connecting to your creator.

You create your life by your beliefs which lead to your thoughts, behaviour action, habits, and destiny.

Start believing in yourself and change your beliefs and thoughts that do not serve you, and get you the desired outcome in life and your job.

Lack Of Role Models

You work with and are around people who are all in a rat race. They have a fixed mindset and have a very negative outlook on their life and job.

Start seeking role models who are doing what you want to do with both your life and your job.

This will help boost your confidence and your self-belief.

You will start seeing the possibility of you living your best life and doing work that gives you joy.

Invest in courses and coaching offered by these mentors, so that you can expedite your success and benefit from their experience.

Fear Keeping You Stuck

You do not like the responsibilities of your job, however, you fear leaving because you associate security with bi-weekly paychecks.

Jobs are not secure. A company can be acquired, and no matter how good you are at a job, you can be laid off or you may get a boss that does not like you, and again, you can be fired or laid off.

Consider starting your own purpose-driven business, even on the side, so that you are in control of your results and income.

Learn to take-action with courage despite fear. Clarity will come through taking-action.

Fear is always going to present whenever we venture into the unknown. Be grateful for it. Fear is there to warn us and help us survive in case of real danger.

Lack Of Inspiration

You may be feeling unchallenged, bored, or not motivated in your job, because it is not aligned with your soul’s purpose.

Turn inward and discover your purpose and do work that is aligned to it. You will feel the inspiration that comes from inside you will not need any external motivation.

The inspiration that comes from within you will propel you to do anything that you want to that’s in alignment with your soul and your purpose

Depleted Energy

Your energy is depleted because you are always in negative energy at work. The majority of the people around you, including your manager, are very negative.

They feel helpless and hopeless. They gossip about their co-workers and blame others for their misery.

You can make a conscious choice to not let others’ energy deplete you. Have a morning routine that fills you mind, body, spirit and energizes you.

Visualize and create a bubble of protection around you. Affirm no negativity can enter and affect you. Tell yourself that you have the creator’s light around you, only positive energy will enter and nothing negative will be allowed to enter.

Don’t Know Yourself

Your core values may not be aligned with your job and company.

Take some time and identify your top 3-5 values and post them somewhere where you can see them daily as a reminder. Your values will make any decision-making easier for you.

Your values will act as a filter when you make any decision including what job you do or the business that you start. If it is aligned to your values, then it is an easy yes.

Don’t Know Your Desired Lifestyle

Your job is conflicting with your desired lifestyle.

Figure out what kind of lifestyle you want, what your perfect day looks like, what time you want to get up, do you want to work in an office on a laptop at the beach? by the pool? Do you want to travel for work or not?

Have a clear vision of your day and every area of your life. Your desired lifestyle can then determine what job you can consider getting or the type of business you can focus on starting, and not the other way around.

Your job or work should not dictate what kind of lifestyle you live. Most people have been taught to do this backwards, and that is why there are a high percentage of people who do not love their job or the work they do.

Should you quit a job that makes you unhappy?

Should you quit a job that makes you unhappy?

The answer to this question would depend on who is asking and whether they have any financial responsibilities and obligations or not.

If you do not have any financial responsibilities and obligations, then yes, you should quit and either look for another job that makes you happy or start your own business.

what to do when you don’t like your job but can’t quit because you need money.

If you need the money because you have financial responsibilities and obligations like a mortgage or rent etc, then you can look for another job that makes you happy before you quit your current job.

Alternatively, you can start a business on the side and quit the job once you are making enough money to fulfill your financial obligations or have saved up enough money to sustain you for a year or two.

What to do if you are unhappy with a job that pays well?

Examine why you are unhappy in a job that pays well.

Is it aligned to your values? desired lifestyle? Purpose? Passion? Soul’s calling?

If not, create a plan to either get another job that pays well and is aligned with the above, or start a business that is aligned with the above.

You can quit the job once you are making enough money to fulfill your financial obligations, or have saved up enough money to sustain you for a year or two.

In conclusion, it is worth examining why you are feeling unhappy in a job.

The job that makes you the unhappy is subjective, because it is the one that is not aligned with your top core values, desired lifestyle, purpose, and prevents you from being your most authentic self.
